MUS 315 Music in the United States
Presents major genres of American music from the colonial period to present. Presents a balanced perspective of the origins, culture and the development of American music. Unique American contributions such as minstrel music, Tin Pan Alley, musical theater, ragtime, blues, jazz, country, rock and art music are presented along with the music of Billings, Gottschalk, MacDowell, Ives, Copland, Bernstein, and others. Prerequisite: MUS 121 or permission of instructor.
