PSY 352 Adulthood and Aging

Providing the student with an understanding of the main developmental processes occurring during the stages of adulthood and old age. Discusses theories of aging, social implications of the recent extensions in longevity, age-related physiological processes and their implications in terms of physical and mental health, changes in cognition, personality, and psychopathology. Also discusses the impact of important life events and developmental tasks on the individual. Thus, marriage and divorce, work and retirement, and finally death, dying, and bereavement, will be discussed, and major empirical results will be presented and analyzed. Prerequisites: PSY 101 and PSY 102.
